Wish
Wish is a Phresh face all the way from Baltimore, MD. Wish is definitely heating things up with her up-tempo funky lyrics from her debut album “Skool Gurl Diaries” which includes her singles “Slut” & “H.A.T.E.L.O.V.E” You can also hear her remake of Denise Williams “Silly” sung beautifully acapella by Wish. Although she’s not yet signed to a label I’m sure she will be on top of the music game. I recently caught up with Wish for a quick interview for more about the sexy ball of fire LETS GO!!!
BOPA: I want this to be fun. I know you have a fun personality and I
want to capture that in this interview so let’s get this crackin’. Sooo my first big question is…. what was the last thing you tweeted before we starting this interview? Lol we all know you’re a tweetacholic.
Wish: The last thing I tweeted was actually "Goodmorning"... lol
BOPA: Who influenced you growing up?
Wish: I was and still am influennced by Chaka Khan, Teena Marie, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evan. i also study a lot of gospel greats like Kim Burrell, & Karen Clark Sheard.
BOPA: You’re very beautiful. I had to add that in there.
Wish: Thank you...thank you.
BOPA: What label would you sign to if giving a chance?
Wish: Wow, that's an interesting question. I think I would go with whichever label believed in me the most...& had a strategic plan for longevity as well as growth in the industry.
BOPA: Do you have any events coming up you wanna shout out?
Wish: Yes! I am headlining the "Burn Tha Mic Concert Series" in Baltimore, MD on Aug 15. Tickets will be available at the door. It's gonna be great! I hope you can make it!
BOPA: What message do you want to get across through your music?
Wish: Normally, like for my music to be interpreted by the listeners...Although I want them to also be inspired to be original and comfortable being who they are. People try so hard to fit in, and to be something they're not. You need to be you & thats it!
BOPA: What artist of today’s music are you feeling the most?
Wish: Hmmmm..I would have to say Drake, Neyo, Jazmine Sullivan, & Beyonce.
BOPA: If we could look in Wish’s closet what brand of clothes would we find?
Wish: Oh wow...mostly you would find vintage clothes. I spend most Saturdays (when I'm not recording/rehearsing) in Vintage Boutiques. I'm obsessed with 20's, 30', & 70's fashion.
BOPA: Are you single dating someone maybe?
Wish: Im totally single. Right now I'm really focused on my music & personal growth. I think every woman should establish herself in her own right before commiting to anyone. Dating is fun too....but yeah....not right now..lol
BOPA: What separates you from the artists out now?
Wish: I think I give a sense of reality to the industry. Skool Gurl Diaries is all about real feelings, real situations, and its about just seeign things for what they are.
BOPA: On your spare time what are you doing? Besides twittering LOL
Wish: OMG! You called me out! I'm the ultimate twitterer..especially inthe earlier part of the day. I spend most of my time rehearsing for my upcoming shows, recording, doing promo for my album, meetings...my whole day is jammed always...BUT please believe I find time to twitter...lol
BOPA: On a serious note. With the industry going through massive
illegal downloads. How do you feel about that, being a new artist
walking into this?
Wish: Well of course I dont think its a great thing, but part of me wants to think that if people are anticpating you so much that they will illegally download your music, they must be anticipating you in some way. However, I hope that they buy the real copy as well.
BOPA: Choose one: Lose your voice or Walk on stage topless?
Wish: Hahahaha! Lose my voice.....!
BOPA: What song from your album do you like performing the most?
Wish: I would have to say SLUT! The energy is live, the beat rocks, we vogue a little bit, its just a fun song altogether.
BOPA: Is there anything you want to say to your fans & future fans?
Wish: I personally want to thank everyone who has been there since I had one little song on my myspace...lol. To see the increase in fans after releasing the album makes me so grateful to them. It gives me the motivation to keep going. I will continue to keep making records and performing as much as possible...I thank you all for your support!
